Decide the layout before renovation
Start by identifying which panels should move and where they should gather when open. Record the opening width, intended track length, number of layers and opening direction. If a ceiling or recess is still being designed, discuss the system location before the construction is closed. An early layout does not replace selection of an exact drive: space, power and servicing requirements must come from the chosen model. Do not size a recess from an unrelated interior photograph.
Plan power and service access
Before finishing work, request the connection diagram and electrical requirements for the actual equipment under consideration. The word motorized does not establish whether a system uses mains power, a battery or remains operational during an outage. Discuss which side will hold the motor and whether it can still be reached after the ceiling and curtains are installed. Electrical work belongs with a qualified professional. Altering wiring yourself or following a universal online diagram is not part of preliminary window measurement.
Check weight and system dimensions
Compatibility depends on the complete design: track length and shape, number of panels, finished dimensions, textile weight, lining and opening arrangement. An illustrative window measuring 2 m by 2.5 m does not establish motor load. Two treatments for that opening may use different amounts of fabric and different components. Ask for confirmation of permitted load, dimensions and limitations in the documentation for the selected system rather than transferring the specifications of another drive to your project.
Verify each control method
List the desired ways of operating the curtains and then verify each one against the precise equipment specification. For an existing smart home, provide the hardware name and protocol; ask whether a gateway, controller or extra module is required. A remote control does not prove Wi-Fi, voice-assistant or platform compatibility. Before buying, request a list of compatible components and identify who will configure them together. A broad statement that a motor supports smart homes is not a complete integration specification.
Discuss loss of power
Ask how the particular model behaves when power is lost and restored. Manual movement or release is appropriate only where the manufacturer provides that function and explains it in the instructions. Do not pull a panel forcefully on the assumption that every drive allows manual operation. If backup power is essential, confirm its availability and compatibility separately. Scheduling functions and retention of settings also require checking for the selected equipment rather than assuming that they are standard on every motorized curtain system.
Prepare the measurement checklist
Describe the opening, ceiling, proposed track, number of layers and desired controls in your enquiry. State the renovation stage and whether any automation equipment already exists. Prepare questions about power, motor side, access, load, control components and servicing. A free measurement and catalogue visit can clarify the project before written quotations with the same scope are compared. Compatibility, operating noise, timing and supplied components need individual confirmation; no universal feature is promised for all motorized curtains.
