Start with a specification
A curtain quotation is easier to understand when the intended result is clear. List the windows, rooms, sheer layers, side curtains and the way each treatment should open. For blinds, identify the system and control method separately. Two windows with the same width may need different components. Record the number of openings, desired drop and daylight requirements before comparing totals. This gives the discussion a defined scope rather than an unexplained headline amount.
Separate materials from services
Ask for distinct lines for fabric, lining, heading treatment, sewing, tracks or mechanisms, accessories and installation. If existing curtains need attention, discuss removal and what should happen to them. Delivery, preparation, pressing and rehanging also need explicit agreement. None should be assumed to be included automatically. A useful quotation records the quantity, calculation unit and work covered by each line, so a later change of fabric or dimensions can be traced.
Window area is not fabric length
Consider an illustrative opening 2 m wide and 2.5 m high. Its geometric area is 5 m², but that does not mean buying five metres of fabric. Blind suppliers may have their own rules for chargeable area and finished dimensions; request those rules. Drapes also depend on roll width, finished drop, pattern direction and separate panels. One area figure cannot describe all of those details or replace a cutting plan prepared for the chosen material.
Understand the gathering example
For another illustration, take a 2 m track and a gathering factor of 2 chosen only for discussion. The combined finished width of the curtains when laid flat would be 4 m. This is neither a universal recommendation nor an exact purchase length. Seam allowances, hems, heading construction and pattern matching require a separate calculation. Discuss how width is divided between panels and calculate lining independently. Select the gathering effect using the actual sample and intended heading.
Compare like with like
Check that quotations refer to the same agreed sample, finished sizes, number of layers, heading, track, controls and services. Establish whether a price covers raw material or a finished treatment. Ask which lines would change if the drop or fabric changed. A lower total may simply cover fewer services; it does not establish workmanship quality. Keep the agreed written specification so the final decision is based on a clearly identified combination rather than a photograph alone.
Prepare a calculation request
Describe the room, approximate dimensions, number of windows and a preferred style from the photo catalogue in the enquiry form. Mention an existing track and any old textiles that need removal or care. The calculator collects geometric information without inventing an unapproved tariff. A free measurement and catalogue visit can clarify the project. Before confirming an order, agree the final specification, schedule and payment terms. Monetary rates have not yet been published for this project.
