Eyelets, heading tape and curtain rail compatibility

A curtain heading shapes the folds and connects the fabric to its support. If you like eyelets or a gathered tape heading, discuss them alongside the existing pole or rail and the finished appearance. The same fabric can look different when its heading changes.

Show the support system first

A pole and a curtain rail are different constructions. Photograph the overall support and visible rings or gliders from an accessible position. If the model is unknown, do not present a guessed name as a confirmed fact. The task is to check the chosen heading against the existing system rather than assume universal compatibility. Avoid finalising cutting and finished height until that relationship has been clarified.

Explain what you like about eyelets

An eyelet is a ringed opening in the upper part of a curtain panel. State whether the broad repeating folds and visible pole are what appeal to you in the reference. Compatibility between the rings and pole needs checking for the actual products, without a universal dimension rule. If you want to retain the pole, say so early. Ring colour and the visible top line also belong in the selection.

Describe the tape heading you want

Heading tape does not describe one fixed appearance. Use a photograph to explain the gathering you want and how visible the top line should be. Hooks, gliders and compatibility need checking with the particular tape and rail. Do not assume one fabric width gives the same finished appearance for every heading. Ask the proposal to identify the tape and expected gathering rather than hide those distinctions under a general sewing description.

Consider a hypothetical replacement

Imagine an existing pole 200 cm long and a request for new eyelet curtains. The number is illustrative, not an ordering measurement. Begin with the actual pole construction and ring compatibility instead of automatically deriving fabric quantity from window width. Then agree the upper line, hem position and side stacking when open. Do not transfer old panel measurements into a new order without checking the changed heading arrangement.

Clarify where finished height begins

Different headings can create confusion about the starting point of a dimension. One person may mean the pole top and another the hanging point, giving the same number different meanings. Label the start and finish in words on the sketch and leave unknowns as questions. Avoid universal centimetre allowances. Agree the measuring convention for the chosen system; a preliminary mark on a photograph is not a confirmed ordering dimension.

Respect limits of existing fabric

Changing an old curtain heading requires more than a photograph of the desired result. Provide the existing finished width, upper fabric condition, previous seams and label information. Do not assume every fabric and previous heading can be altered successfully. That decision needs material assessment. This article does not instruct removal of heavy panels or work on a high support; arrange assessment of inaccessible areas and any necessary services separately.

Confirm compatibility in the enquiry

Describe these details in the enquiry form and prepare photographs for the agreed visit. Explain whether retaining the system is a priority or replacement is an option. Ask for the heading, compatibility, finished dimensions and additional components to be identified separately. The next step is confirmation against samples and site conditions, making possible support changes and measurement misunderstandings visible while the proposal can still be adjusted.
